In Parque Aventura Río Barranca, you can practice different kinds of rappelling, according to different heights or simply in the descent style chosen. The equipment we provide our clients for these practices are completely certified with the CE and UIAA stamps. This equipment is the same used for rock-climbing and vertical rescuing activities, the brands we use are world-wide known, such as our Yates and Petzl harnesses, rescue-eight and two-step-automatic Omega carabineers, static ropes of 11.3 y 12.1mm, Elios (by Petzl) helmets with four points, leather gloves and protective glasses. The guides who lead this activity, have the same equipment, and also have extra ropes, stops, pulleys and slings Spectra 24”.
Types of descent:
Free Fall
This type of rappelling is the one where you can go all the way down, without a wall or anything to step on. During your descent you will need to use your strongest hand for squeezing the rope in order to slow down and let it loose for speed. The rope is tiedto two karabiners that pass through the rescue eight which is hooked to a harness with another carabineer. This technique is very safe, easy to do and is of high adrenaline. The platform sits 25m high.
Rappel on natural rock
The techniques when you are coming off the platform and those of the breaking system are the same as those of “Free Fall Rappel”. The difference lies in that you will have to walk down a vertical natural rock wall, pressing you legs against the rock, adopting a horizontal position. This task demands a high level of agility and concentration on behalf of the rappelled. This is an extreme activity where you literally walk vertically, secured by 2 ropes, on a natural 45m. Rock wall.
